Youthful Speculation

What are we really doing? More importantly, WHY are we doing the things we’re doing. As someone approaching the cage of adulthood and independence, I find myself asking this question a lot.

All work I have done has been either self-employed or on a 0-hours contract, so I have yet to face any kind of concrete contract. And the closer I am getting, the less I want to.

But then again- the reliable job, steady income and fancy titles, all bring a sense of stability. Stability. Really that is what most humans across history have wanted- to be safe and stable. No worries, no complications, no unexpected disasters. Just stable.

However, the difference today is that it is made out to be an easy, accessible and the sole route that you should be taking. And it goes something like this (usually).

Get somewhat of an education, go to University/college/apprenticeship/internship, work for 40-50 years, retire, have fun, die.

Now this is could just be a very naive, cliche, youthfully rebellious look on the things ahead of me and you may question my experience on what I am talking about (as I do not have much), but this is what I see from the start of my road.

Please remember that your life is controlled by the things you do in it, not the things you think. A man who looks to the sky with dreams of exploring it will be never as close as the man who dances around in the stars.

If there is something you want to do, something you need to do in this life, no one will do it for you- so take up the opportunity that is life and get the f*** out there!
